Job Description

Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and student-centered educator who will create a classroom environment that fosters learning and personal growth for every student. The ideal candidate will build strong rapport with students, engage them in meaningful learning experiences, and support their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social development. This role also involves cultivating positive relationships with parents and colleagues while empowering students to develop essential competencies in listening, spoken language, literacy, and responsible citizenship to thrive in society.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with campus curriculum, Auditory-Verbal Therapies (AVT), and Texas 
  • Education Agency (TEA) guidelines, while incorporating data-driven instruction.
  • Collaborate with campus staff to modify curriculum and instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students, 
  • including those with Child Study Team (CST) or Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals. 
  • Utilize appropriate strategies, materials, technology, and support staff to enhance student learning and ensure 
  • instructional effectiveness.
  • Monitor student progress through formal and informal assessments, including Cottage Acquisition Scales for 
  • Listening, Language and Speech (CASLLS) and academic data; provide academic tutoring and conduct regular 
  • AVT sessions to support goal achievement and home carryover.
  • Foster a positive, developmentally appropriate classroom environment that supports students’ academic, language, physical, social, and emotional growth.
  • Manage student behavior using Conscious Discipline strategies and individualized plans, 
  • Maintain grades and documentation in compliance with handbook policies.
  • Ensure student safety and care of classroom resources; assist with troubleshooting hearing technology in collaboration with audiology staff and support personnel.
  • Establish and maintain professional, effective communication with caregivers, students, colleagues to support 
  • collaboration and student success.
  • Participate in professional development and stay current with state, campus, and organizational policies to 
  • enhance job performance.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation. 
  • Actively engage in required meetings, events, and campus committees as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Assist with drop-off and pick-up process to ensure the safety, efficiency and smooth transition of students, while 
  • enforcing school policies and communicating effectively with parents and guardians.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience: 

  • Individual must possess a bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited university. At least one year of 
  • student teaching or internship experience is required. 
  • Master’s degree in Deaf Education from an accredited university and minimum of 3-5 years’ proven experience as 
  • an elementary education teacher and working with special education students is preferred.
  • Knowledge of core academic subjects.
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to instruct and supervise classroom assistant or student teacher.
  • Strong organizational, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.

Certificates:

  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned is 
  • required. 
  • Required to pursue Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS) certification within 3 years of hire.
  • Valid Deaf Education certification is required.
  • Valid LSLS certification is preferred.
  • Valid Special Education certification is preferred. 

 

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35-50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
